DYW Employer of the Month
DYW Glasgow is delighted to announce DRG as Employer of the Month for September. DRG | Di Maggio’s Restaurant Group which includes Amarone, Atlantic Bar and Brasserie, The Anchor Line, Barolo Grill, Café Andaluz, Di Maggio’s restaurants and most recent addition, The Citizen, in its portfolio has been a great supporter of the Developing the Young Workforce agenda.
As a thriving sector, careers within hospitality are plentiful and DRG is keen to show young people what a fantastic and rewarding career the industry can provide. Not only to do they provide regular tours for school pupils allowing young people to learn about careers in their restaurants, they also support larger DYW events, such as jobs fairs. They supported DYW at the Young Enterprise Awards Ceremony in June and generally get involved whenever they can.
DRG has committed to running another three tours for school pupils this year and will be coming along to DYW Glasgow’s Jobs Fair on 20 September at Double Tree by Hilton where they will host a stand, provide information about upcoming Christmas vacancies and run interactive workshops where young people will make mocktails and take part in an assault course to help them practice their service skills and get a taster for how they can be part of the DRG passion for delivering great customer service.
Kath Knox, HR Manager is also keen to showcase the progression available. She herself worked in a front of house role whilst at university but enjoyed it so much she decided to stay after graduation and has since progressed to her current position.
Di Maggio’s is a family-run business that has served thousands of satisfied diners across Scotland for nearly three decades. In the early 1980s Mario Gizzi went into partnership with his uncle, Giuseppe “Joe” Conetta, with a vision to introduce delicious and affordable Italian-American dining to Glasgow. The development of the Di Maggio’s winning formula was driven by the two founders until the 1990s when Joe handed the mantle to his son, Tony, who had first-hand experience of the restaurant floor having worked in the business as a kitchen porter and waiter. Today Di Maggio’s continues to grow and prosper with cousins, Mario and Tony, at the helm.
In addition to restaurants, they have recently expanded into bars, with The Anchor Line and Atlantic Brasserie having strong cocktail bar offerings, and with their most recent addition, The Citizen Bar & Dining Rooms, on St Vincent Place. Kath met with Rose from the team to discuss Modern Apprenticeships to support their growth. With help from SDS, they have since taken on more than 70 apprentices in waiting staff and chef positions.
